Alan Bernstein, MD, MPH, FAAP is the Chief Medical Officer for the Greater Hudson Valley Family Health Center. He has responsibility for the oversight of all clinical programs, the development and implementation of the practice's quality improvement plan, the recruitment and credentialing of all clinical staff, medical staff relations, the appropriate utilization of clinical resources and the monitoring of the practice’s clinical outcomes
Dr. Bernstein has over 20 years’ experience as a senior physician executive with a variety of health care organizations including hospitals, multi-specialty group practices, managed care organizations and health care companies. He served as the Chairman of the Departments of Pediatrics at The Brooklyn Hospital Center in New York and the Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Massachusetts and the Chief Medical Officer for the Physician Hospital Organization at Lenox Hill Hospital. Dr. Bernstein was the Medical Director at The Cumberland Diagnostic and Treatment Center, the Montefiore Comprehensive Health Care Center and the Lenox Hill Community Medical Group. He also held the title of Regional Medical Director/Chief Medical Officer at US Healthcare, Tufts Health Plans, Well Care Health Plans and NYLCare Health Plans of New York. Finally, Dr. Bernstein served as the Chief Medical Officer with health care companies involved with radiology management and bariatric surgery.
Dr. Bernstein is a graduate of New York University School of Medicine and the pediatric residency program at Babies Hospital/ Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. He also holds a Masters in Public Health from the UC Berkeley School of Public Health. He is licensed in the states of New York, New Jersey, California, Massachusetts and Connecticut. Dr. Bernstein is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Preventive Medicine, the Society for Adolescent Medicine and the New York Academy of Medicine.
He is on the faculty at the SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn School of Medicine where he holds the rank of Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics. Dr. Bernstein has served as the Editor-in-Chief for Seminars in Medical Practice and on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Clinical Outcomes Management. Dr. Bernstein is the author of the “Bits ‘N Pieces” column in The Times Herald Record. He is currently on the Board of Directors of Inspire in Goshen, New York and the Maternal Infant Services Network of Rockland. Orange and Sullivan Counties.
